Dame Laura Knight (1877 - 1970)
In her long career she became one of the most successful and popular painters in Britain and in 1929 she was honoured as a Dame.
She had many great achievements throughout her career, being commissioned as a war artist during the Second World War producing some very iconic images, and in 1936 became the first woman elected to full membership of the Royal Academy since its foundation in 1768.
