Arts and Crafts Table Dinner Gong of Character
A beautifully item of Victorian quirkiness and a novel way of directing your guest to the dining room, by Benetfink & Co. Circa 1884-1885
This is a very lovely characterfully cast Victorian Table Gong, with the original hammer, all in good condition.
Silverplated, this would have been an expensive novelty item of the day and today still displays with great charm.
Very good quality by an exceptionally well respected maker of the Victorian era.
Benetfink & Co.
They described themselves as ‘furnishing ironmongers’ and had large premises on Cheapside in London from 1845 to 1907.
They sold a very large range of metalware items for the home and claimed in an advert in 1852 that they would furnish an eight-roomed house for £5.
Height: 23 cm Width: 16.5 cm Depth: 10 cm
This sturdy little gong is in very good condition with wear to be expected for its 100+ years of age.
Although now a fine coating, there is still a good amount of silver plating present, all makers marks and Rd Numbers are clear, and the figural casting shows very little sign of rubbing/polishing wear. Overall displays with great charm.
