Unusual Oak BBC Radio and Accumulator Battery Cabinet - circa late 1920's
A good quality and decorative Oak cabinet used to house an early BBC wireless Radio Set, LT Accumulator and HT Battery.
Early radios needed a Low Tension (LT) Accumulator to warm the valves and a High Tension (HT) battery to power the radios circuits. The internal shelves of this cabinet still show the connection pass throughs marked LT and HT.
Radios of this type were used in areas where power was not available in the late 1920's and the Accumulator Cell and Battery were taken to specialist shops to be recharged and exchange for the following weeks BBC Broadcasts.
