Midland Bank Limited Bronze / Copper Branch Sign Circa late 1920s

The sign is made from blackened copper and foundry hot cast bronze decorative bordering with white embossed lettering and a weather worn patina and a modest style hinting to the Art Deco era of inception of the Limited Company.

The Midland Bank was established as the Birmingham and Midland Bank in the Midlands UK in 1836. Growth saw the the acquisition of several banks in the Midlands, and latterly in London merging with the Central Bank of London Limited in 1891 to form the London City and Midland Bank. The Name MIDLAND BANK LIMITED was established in 1923. Growth slowed in the war years, but international growth took place in the 1960s and 70s and in 1992 the London-based HSBC Holdings PLC (formerly Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation) acquired control of Midland Bank.

This sign is a great symbol of the UK banking heritage and placed well, makes a superb decorative antique with a fascinating story.
