Victorian Ebonised Despatch Box, J.W & T Allen Est. London 1798 – 1913
This is a lovely and very substantial Despatch Box, quality fittings from the Bramah lock to the William Tonks & Son hinges.
Refurbished with care to retain the original character.
One velvet lined tray lifting out to a deep practical size document compartment.
The lid has new webbed correspondence restraints and makers gold insignia to the centre.
Quality inset brass rise and fall handle central to the lid.
Original Bramah Lock (Stamped Patent Allen) works exceptionally well and has the original key.
The Hinges are from another quality manufacturer of the day William Tonks & Son.
Please note this Bramah Lock is self-locking, the key must not be left inside… we have attached a chain as a little ‘aid memoir’ in a bid to help prevent any accidental locking!
